Who is this assessment designed for?
My practice is designed specifically for adults seeking a thoughtful, neurodivergent-affirming assessment experience. Many of my clients are people whose experiences have historically been overlooked or misunderstood, including women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others whose presentation may not fit traditional stereotypes.
My goal is not simply to determine whether you meet diagnostic criteria. It is to help you understand yourself as accurately and compassionately as possible while working within current professional standards.
What do you not assess for?
Divergent specializes in adult neurodivergent and mental health assessments.
The practice does not currently provide:
Child or adolescent assessments
Intellectual disability evaluations
Academic achievement/Learning disability evaluations
Neuropsychological or neurocognitive evaluations
Court-ordered or forensic evaluations
If your needs fall outside the scope of this practice, I'll do my best to help you find the right resource.
Divergent is a private-pay practice and does not accept insurance. Insurance reimbursement is often not sustainable, given how disrespected mental health services are by managed care companies. It also adds significant administrative work, documentation requirements, prior authorizations, billing procedures, and ongoing claim management that is not designed well for private practice providers.
By remaining private pay, I'm able to spend more time focused on clients instead of paperwork, keep the assessment process flexible rather than designing it around insurance requirements, and offer straightforward pricing with no surprise bills.
If you have out-of-network benefits, I'm happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your individual insurance plan.
Insurance Options for Oklahoma Residents
While Divergent is a private pay only practice, I am also contracted through another group practice, GPS Therapies, that allows me to see Oklahoma residents with the following insurance carriers: BCBS, United, Health Choice, and Aetna. If you live in OK and have one of these insurances, contact me and I can see you through that practice instead. The cost of the assessment will vary based on your carrier and benefits.
Why is so much completed before the appointment?
Many neurodivergent people find it easier to organize their thoughts when they have time to reflect instead of answering complex questions on the spot.
Completing much of the interview ahead of time allows you to work at your own pace, revisit questions, and think through your answers without feeling rushed. You are also encouraged to have a trusted support person help you remember experiences or talk through the questions while completing the forms.
This also gives me time to review everything before we meet, so our appointments can focus on understanding you instead of rushing through paperwork.
Is this therapy?
No. However, my assessment and consultation style is warm, collaborative, and intentionally therapeutic. When appropriate, I use our conversations to provide insight, validation, education, and practical guidance.
Assessment and consultation are not psychotherapy and do not create an ongoing therapy relationship.
What kind of report will I receive?
The standard assessment includes a concise written summary containing:
A brief summary of the assessment process
Overall findings
Your diagnoses, if applicable
Personalized recommendations, including suggested accommodations
If you need more extensive documentation, you can choose the comprehensive report option.
Do I need a parent or family member to participate?
No. Collateral information can be very helpful though, especially when someone remembers parts of your childhood that you don't. If you have a parent, sibling, partner, or another trusted person who you'd like to involve, that is absolutely encouraged.
However, it is never required. Your own lived experience remains the most important part of the assessment, and another person's perspective is never considered more important than yours.
Will I be completing standardized psychological testing?
This assessment is primarily interview-based and tailored specifically to your questions and concerns.
You may be asked to complete a few screening questionnaires when they provide helpful information, but the assessment focuses primarily on your history, your lived experience, and our conversations together.
Divergent does not provide intellectual, academic achievement, or neuropsychological testing.
Do you use artificial intelligence?
Yes, but with strong caution and always with your privacy in mind.
I use secure AI tools to assist with the most time-consuming portions of report writing. This allows me to spend more time focusing on you during the assessment process while also keeping my fees substantially lower than many comprehensive private-pay evaluations.
AI is never used to make clinical decisions or determine your diagnosis. All diagnostic decisions, clinical opinions, recommendations, and conclusions are made by me before AI is ever involved. AI is used only to help organize information and assist with writing the final document more efficiently.
Your interviews are never audio or video recorded, and I do not use ambient listening technology.
Your name, date of birth, contact information, and other direct identifying information are never entered into AI systems. When AI assistance is used, identifying information is replaced with pseudonyms to provide an additional layer of privacy.
If you prefer that AI not be used during documentation, a fully manual report-writing option is available for an additional fee because it requires significantly more clinician time.
